Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that affects a person’s ability to recognize words and numbers because of a breakdown of neural connectivity in certain areas of the brain. This condition is often times hereditary and is not associated with obvious brain damage, but can be induced by brain damage. The person who has dyslexia will never be rid of it and will most likely have to struggle with reading and math for the rest of their lives.

Even though there are ways around it, it is a very frustrating disorder to have. People with severe dyslexia are often incorrectly labeled as being slow because they have to spend extra time throughout their lives in school learning to simply read, write, and do math.

People with dyslexia are as intelligent as anyone else and, through the use of therapy, can learn to be proficient in math, reading, and writing. While they may never be rid of this disorder, the mind is capable is doing incredible things. Therefore, if you know someone who struggles with dyslexia, the best thing that you can do is be patient with them and make sure that they are able to utilize all of the resources available to them so that they can learn how to overcome the difficult situations that they have to face.
