I recently heard this excellent story on Radio Lab on NPR about how creatures can perceive colors in a variety of ways because of how many different types of cones they have in their eyes. In this show, they explained how each animal they talked about perceived the rainbow and attached a musical note to each color that the animal was able to recognize, making a rainbow of sounds for each animal.

The speakers in this podcast mentioned that the mantis shrimp had the most color receptors in its eyes of any known creature, 64. It is an amazing animal.

This story also pointed out that it is thought that people in some ancient civilizations could have been color-blind to the color blue.

I love learning about how people and other organisms perceive the world depending on their physical ability and the ability of their mind to perceive what they are seeing.
